Concordia Health's Mitcham based practice, the Wilson Health Centre, has scooped the prestigious General Practice of the Year award seeing off competition from 15 finalists chosen from entries from around the UK. The award recognises the quality of the health centre's patient care and its innovative ways of working with community and voluntary groups to bring health services to those who risk being excluded.
Practice manager Michele Izzo said: "This is great news for the team here at the Wilson Health Centre and for all the community groups we work alongside. It's a fantastic commendation for all the hard work everyone puts in. I hope it will be a boost for local people too - knowing they have an award winning GP practice on their doorstep."
The Wilson Health Centre opened in March 2010 with the intention of doing things differently. As well as actively listening to patients' needs it also works closely with local groups to bring health programmes to every part of the community. It is open every day of the year from 8am to 8pm to provide GP services to registered and non-registered patients, via walk-in or pre booked appointments.
The General Practice Awards is organised by Campden Media, which publishes Management in Practice, GP Business and Nursing in Practice. The awards ceremony on November 16, 2011 was attended by more than 450 representatives from GP practices across the country.
