Primary Care

We currently run seven NHS general practices across London. These include a mixture of nurse and doctor-led practices with walk-in services. Through working closely with our patients, local community and voluntary organisations and the PCT we have tailored the services we provide at each of our practices to better meet the need of the local population.

We understand the clinical service requirements of general practice, the need to, as a bare minimum, manage prescribing within budget, reduce secondary care referrals and inappropriate A&E attendances, to be innovative in order to make patient access more convenient and to ensure that we deliver an excellent service responsive to the specific practice populations health needs.

In delivering primary care we are constantly assessing whether our services and approach are responsive to the specific needs of our patients. Protecting patients is not simply important, it is one of the prime directives of medicine. Patients have a right to compassionate, competent, safe care that proactively seeks to improve their health and well being.

We see primary care as the sum of many parts and we work closely with gp colleagues, pharmacies,dental surgeries and the Third Sector in promoting health, the management of minor ailments and long-term conditions in prescribing and oral health. Collectively we believe that we can better promoteself-care and patient empowerment, through targeted education, social marketing and information, enabling the public to be more confident in adopting healthier lifestyles and managing self-limiting problems and LTCs.

Our practices include GP trainers, specialist community services and all have extended opening hours.

Following the implementation of our first community engagement plan in one of our general practices we are delighted to announce that the Wilson Health Centre has won the 'General Practice of the Year 2011' Award.
